Wolfville NS | Haunted adventure at the Randall House Museum
Located in the beautiful Annapolis Valley, the Randall House which has retained its New England colonial character is situated on a hill overlooking what used to be Wolfville’s bustling harbour.
In the early days the people who lived in Randall House could see ships being built along the harbour banks; they were familiar with the bustle of cargo being loaded and unloaded, and they could stroll down the lane across the road to the wharves and the lighthouse.
History
The Randall House is a wooden two-and-a-half storey Georgian style farmhouse dating from the late eighteenth century. While the date of construction is unknown, the first recorded owner of the house was Aaron Cleveland, a tradesman living in Wolfville around 1805. On 14 November 1812, Cleveland sold the property to a carpenter by the name of Charles Randall, which would remain in the Randall family for another 115 years, and often be rented out to others. However, by 1927 the years had taken their toll on the house, it was in such poor condition it had become virtually uninhabitable, and often was regarded as a spooky place by the town children.
Charles Patriquin, a retired farmer, bought the property in 1927 and with the support of his wife and family, repaired the neglected building and transformed its tangled, unkempt yard into a robust vegetable garden that became a local attraction. In 1947, he sold the house to the Wolfville Historical Society, and in May 1949, it became the town’s museum.

Ghost Stories -With Krystal Tanner
Our investigation
The Randall House is an amazing place to visit. With three floors, and seven original fireplaces, each room was filled with many historical pieces, as well as some furniture that was once owned by some of the previous owners. It gives you a great idea of what life would have been like during the early days.

Missing from photo Krystal Tanner
We were joined in the investigation by Krystal Tanner Curator/Manager of the museum, along with Kelsey and Melissa. The investigation got off to a great start. As we were sitting in the dining room asking questions, Charlene was in the next room with the spirit box. With headphones on, she wasn’t able to hear what we were asking, and she was repeating only what she would hear on the spirit box. We were getting direct answers to our questions! There are many methods that can be used to communicate with spirits during an investigation, and along with our recorder, this one seemed to be favored the most.
There were many personal experiences throughout the investigation, with Kelsey felling something tug on her shirt, Charlene being touched, and Melissa seeing a shadow move towards her, made for quite an interesting evening. We also learned that there was a young boy on the second floor, who told us his name was “Edan” He would make his presence known many times throughout the night, each time by saying “Psst” through the ghost box. That’s the first time a spirit has done that to get our attention :-)
Investigation Highlights
After reviewing our evidence, we kept a total of 19 evps, many of which were very clear. (no headphones required) Two of the very first evps that we captured, were recorded as we were getting set up for the investigation. The first was that of a female saying “shall I help him” and who we would soon come to know as Edan saying “I will come back” which you can hear below.
Edan's EVP
As we were wrapping up our investigation in the attic, fireworks were going off in Port Williams. What a way to finish an investigation!
We look forward to returning to this location, and seeing what the next chapter holds.
